What is HHC?
The cannabinoid is typically derived through a process that begins with hemp, the low-THC cannabis plant that was made federally legal by U.S. congress in the 2018 Farm Bill.
HHC is a THC relative long known to science (Created in 1944 by American chemist Roger Adams) but until recently not often discussed by cannabis users. HHC is a minor cannabinoid: it occurs naturally in cannabis, but in amounts so slim it makes extraction not cost effective. Since commercial production of HHC is just getting off the ground, its still not widely known.
Most cannabinoids can be converted to other cannabinoids by altering the chemistry of the molecules. Like Delta-8 THC and Delta-10 THC, commercial HHC is processed from Hemp Derived CBD in a lab.
HHC Effects
HHC can have THC like effects on the body and mind, but HHC is less potent, milligram-per-millagram, than delta 8 THC. Delta 8 THC is itself generally regarded as about half as potent as the standard Delta 9 THC. HHC effects are very similar to those of THC, such as feelings of euphoria, as well as altered visual and auditory perceptions.
Some HHC users describe its effects as more relaxing than stimulating, similar to Delta 8. Since HHCC is so similar to THC, it may offer many of THC's therapeutic benefits, but few studies have investigated this. One study on beta-HHC in rats indicated it possesses notable painkilling benefits, but more research is required to assess HHC's full potential.
